Cooking Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F) and position the oven rack in the middle.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 ½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour, ½ cup (120 ml) melted coconut oil, ¼ cup (60 ml) maple syrup, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon salt. Mix until the dough forms and is crumbly.
  3. Transfer the dough into a tart pan (23 cm/9 inches) and press evenly across the bottom and up the sides. Use a fork to poke holes in the bottom to prevent bubbling.
  4. Place the crust in the refrigerator to chill for 15-20 minutes.
  5. While the crust is chilling, prepare the filling. In another bowl, combine 4 medium pears (ripe, peeled and sliced), ⅓ cup (65 g) brown sugar, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 tablespoons plant-based milk, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Mix until the pears are evenly coated.
  6. Once the crust is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator. Pour the pear filling evenly into the crust.
  7. Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes or until the pears are tender and the crust is lightly golden. A toothpick inserted into the filling should come out clean.
  8. After baking, remove the tart from the oven and let it cool in the tart pan for at least 15 minutes. This will allow the filling to set properly.
  9. Carefully slice and serve the tart warm or at room temperature. For added flair, drizzle with extra maple syrup or sprinkle with additional cinnamon before serving, if desired. Enjoy!

Tips on plating and presentation

elegant vegan dessert presentation

Although presentation may seem secondary to flavor, it can elevate your vegan pear tart into a stunning centerpiece.

I love placing the tart on a simple wooden board to highlight its beauty. A dusting of powdered sugar and a sprig of mint add elegance.

For an extra touch, drizzle some vegan caramel sauce around the plate, creating an inviting visual appeal.
